Following their triumph performing Requiem by Verdi at the magnificent Anglican Cathedral in the Spring, LWC begin their 125th anniversary season with a very different version of the funeral mass.

Faure’s Requiem, described as unique, concentrates on the true meaning of ‘Requiem’ or ‘rest’. Leaving behind the horrors of death and subsequent judgement, he focuses on peaceful acceptance resulting in a composition which provides serenity and comfort to the listener. 

In conjunction with Gounod’s acclaimed Mass, composed in honour of the patron saint of music, Saint Cecilia which combines simplicity with operatic dramatic elements, this concert promises an evening of musical joy and beauty with a message of awe and reverence for the divine mysteries.
